Remember all those scenes in the movies where the spy gets into the desk drawer or file cabinet of the baddie and photographs the incriminating documents with a mini-camera? Well, now there’s something even better.
The Doxie scanner weighs in at 10.9 ounces and measures 11.5″ x 2.0″ x 1.8″. You can plug it in (via USB) to any PC or Mac notebook, and start scanning. You can scan anything from a business card to legal-size 8.5″ x 14″. The scanner, which scans at 600dpi in color or grayscale, can produce PDF or JPEG files, and can send documents to OCR programs. And it can work as fast as 12 seconds a page. The cost is only $128.
Software for the product has just been released that allows you to send scanned-in document to any of a wide variety of cloud-type applications. These include Google Docs or Evernote for documents, and Flickr, iPhoto and Picasa for pictures. You can set it up to automatically upload an image at the press of a button.
If it works as promised, this could be a great tool for anyone on the go who needs to save invoices, bills of lading, travel documents, or any other loose paper device.
The product is due in March.
