An inkjet MFP that competes with the laser models

Hewlett-Packard’s new Officejet Pro 8500 family provides excellent speed and strong features, that make it (for now) the top ink jet all-in-one on the market.
These models print at up to 15ppm in black and up to 11ppm in color at full 600dpi quality — making them comparable in speed to most of the low-cost laser MFPs on the market (even faster in color than several of them). And the prices are lower, starting at $250 for the base model, which is Ethernet ready and supports copying, printing, faxing, and scanning.
But the real innovation here is cost per page. Using high-volume cartridges, we estimate a cost per page of 7.2 cents in color and 1.6 in black-and-white. That would be outstanding for a far faster laser MFP, such as Hewlett-Packard’s own 31ppm Color LaserJet CM3530 family. It leaves most other ink jet models and low-end laser in the dust.
This is an excellent pick for a single user or a small workgroup.

Another superb printer model by Hewlet Packard! It looks great and for sure the features are highly advance.

We had to replace our MP600, though it’s not very old, because it started printing lines across the color pictures and none of the self-help remedies in the manual (or recommended by phone) worked. New printers don’t cost enough to make it worthwhile to mail the old one somewhere for service. The new one works fine, perhaps a little slow, but good pictures. The unit is nice and self-contained, with doors that close up and prevent dust. Be aware that you can’t scan wirelessly using an Airport Express — you need an Airport Extreme, apparently. But you can print wirelessly with an Airport Express. One other thing to be careful about — Amazon sells ink cartridges that it says will work on this model, but they won’t. The CLI-8’s work on the 600, but for the 620 you need CLI-221, which are smaller. And order some extra, because these small cartridges don’t last very long.
