Brother MFC-7340: An affordable desktop laser MFP
July 1, 2009 by Sam NarisiPosted in: Product miniReviews
The MFC-7340 is a new black-and-white MFP based on Brother’s proven architecture. This model offers straightforward but minimal features at $200. It offers a document feeder and fax capability along with a decent 21ppm speed for printing and copying.
Its features are modest. This machine comes with a 250-sheet paper tray and a single-sheet bypass. The MFC-7340 comes with only 16MB of memory, adequate for its host-based (GDI) printing.
Connectivity is via USB only.
The document feeder holds 35 sheets, an improvement over earlier Brother models in this segment. There is also a flatbed platen.
We estimate cost per page will run 3.5 cents using the high-yield toner cartridge and drum. That is high, but in line with what you’ll find with other machines in this price range.
Brother rates this model as having a 10,000-page-per-month duty cycle. It also gives a more realistic recommended volume of 250 to 2,000 pages a month.
This is a capable multifunctional for the individual user and has reasonable value for the price.
