Case study: iPad saves firm big bucks on paper

Apple’s new iPad tablet device has gotten a long look from businesses as an alternative to traditional means of sharing documents. Here’s one company that’s gotten good use out of it.
SageView Advisory Group, an investment firm in West Palm Beach, Florida, is using a lot less paper since getting its hands on some iPads in May.
The company estimates it will save thousands of sheets of paper each quarter, 100 hours of labor a year and hundreds of dollars by cutting down on printer ink and toner, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Before the iPad, SageView employees would meet with clients and bring along binders with over 200 pages of paper for everyone present at the meeting, says Jeffrey Petrone, a retirement plan consultant at SageView. That averaged out to about 12,500 pages a quarter.
The new Apple device has replaced those binders. The company has bought about 30 iPads to use in its 16 offices nationwide. With the money saved on paper and materials, Petrone says the device pays for itself. Also, he says, client response has been positive.
