Is your commercial printer green? One way to tell

For a growing number of companies, the idea of limiting impact on the environment is an important principle. That extends not only to internal printing, but also to larger print jobs sent out of house to a print shop.
But there’s been no way before now to check whether that printer is making an effort to be green.
Now there’s a group that certifies printing companies as being green. The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership has set up criteria for determining the environmental credentials of printers that apply.
The principles that they use are that the companies should:
- Use, when possible, materials derived from renewable resources or with low environmental impact
- Encourage recycling and recovery
- Work with suppliers to make more eco-friendly materials, and
- Educate clients on best green printing practices.
It’s still early days with group, which is gradually certifying companies. across the U.S. But it is a promising start, and eventually the idea is that there will be a choice of certified shops in every city.
