OfficeMax offers in-store shredding

Here’s a new service offered by office superstore chain OfficeMax: security document shredding that’s as easy for customers as picking up a printer cartridge.
The service is the result of an alliance with document security company Shred-It and is aimed at small businesses and individuals who need to safely get rid of a backlog of documents.
The project is aimed at those who need serious shredding services, but not in sufficient volume to justify the purchase of a serious shredder unit or a separate contract with a major service provider like Shred-It.
How the service will work: Customers will bring documents to one of OfficeMax’s 1,000+ outlets, where they will be secured in locked bin. A portable, high-capacity shredding unit will visit the store on a regular basis and render the documents in question into confetti.
Cost for the service, which has been piloted already at select OfficeMax outlets, are:
- 59 cents per pound for the first five pounds
- 49 cents per pound for the next five pounds
- 39 cents per pound for 11 pounds or more
