When you hear about why offices should cut down on printing, the talk usually revolves around the cost of paper and ink/toner. But there’s something else to keep in mind:
Office space.
According to blogger Corey Smith, average yearly rent for office space is $24 per square foot. So a 10′ x 10′ filing room costs businesses $9,600 a year.
Scanning and storing files electronically would allow a business to shred the paper, or, if paper records have to be kept but not immediately accessed, store them off site.
Cutting down on paper files could save rent money, and in some cases, eliminate the need to move to a bigger office as the company grows.
