Survey: Cyber attacks increasing

Higher-ups balking at your proposed security budget? Results from a Computer Security Institute study may convince them your planned upgrades are necessary.

The survey included more than 400 public and private sector IT managers. The surge in malware was the most dramatic finding: 64% of  respondents said they’d been hit by malware attacks.

That’s compared to the 50% who reported similar attacks a year ago.

The survey also found that many of these attacks were multistage hits, in which malware downloaded separate tools that would make an infection worse once it got inside the network.

The 2009 survey will be available here for download on Dec. 8. Read it and weep.
