Need some ideas for cutting the energy bill? Ask the experts on your company’s operations — employees.
That’s what Xerox has been doing for the past 16 years with its in-house Earth Awards program. The awards are given to teams around the globe that develop environmentally friendly initiatives.
This year, Xerox announced employees’ ideas had saved the company $7.3 million, eliminated 1.3 million pounds of waste and reduced energy use by 500,000 KWH.
Of course, you’re probably operating on a smaller scale than Xerox. But finding ways to reward employees for coming up with green ideas — and letting them know how important it is to the company — can lead to big savings.
